First generation of 'Made in UAE' fashion designers to debut in Dubai

Biggest private fashion show in Dubai to feature 100 models showcasing capstone designs of local and international students

French Fashion University Esmod - Dubai, the only fashion university in the Middle East and the oldest and most prominent institution associated with international fashion education, has announced that it is organising the biggest private fashion show in Dubai to be held on June 22, 2009, at the main atrium of Wafi Mall, to celebrate the graduation of the first generation of “Made in UAE” fashion designers.

As many as 100 models will showcase creative designs of local and international students on the runway, while up to 1,000 attendants are also expected to take part in the event. The fashion show will also feature prominent figures from the fashion world who will serve as jury members, including the President of Esmod International, a representative from Christian Lacroix, and the Director of Galeries Lafayette. In addition, several local and international VIP guests will be present.

Esmod students will be presenting their personal fashion collections to the professional jury and to renowned local and international fashion personalities as part of their requirements to obtain the Esmod BA Degree, which is certified by the French Ministry of Education and Esmod International.

Our students have proved their talent, ingenuity and creativity in conceptualising innovative designs. We will continue to promote the development of fashion in Dubai and celebrate fashion as a way of life. We will also support Esmod Dubai graduates in their search for investors and help them establish business relations in the local market."

The fashion show will include collections in different categories including ready to wear, Haute Couture & New Couture and costumes for movies. The student participants will vie for various awards, including Best Designer, Best Pattern Maker, and Golden Needle Award. Main sponsor of the event is Dubai Summer Surprises, Wafi Mall and Nomada, while other sponsors include La Dune and Nuxe. Media partners also include Rotana magazine and TV, L’Officiel, Sayidaty and Russian Emirates magazines.

The Dubai campus of the French Fashion University Esmod embraces students from 47 different countries, of which over 40 per cent are GCC nationals and locals. Esmod Dubai students are frequent winners of local and regional fashion awards such as the Bride Show Dubai, Dubai International Fashion Week, Beauty World WTC, Dubai Fashion Week, Burjuman Runway Art Contest, Your Majesty Fashion Show, Queens Kings & Divas, and other fashion exhibitions at Wafi and Burjuman.
